Counseling Course Texts:In the second half of the course, you will read and study two important books: Basic Types of Pastoral Care & Counseling by Howard Clinebell I'm OK You're OK by Thomas A. Harris, M.D. A highly respected pioneer in Pastoral Counseling, Howard Clinebell, Ph.D., was Professor Emeritus of Pastoral Psychology and Counseling at the School of Theology at Claremont, California. Perhaps the best way to give you an overview of Dr. Clinebell's book is to name its chapters:
I'm OK You're OK In his popular book, I'm OK You're OK, psychiatrist Dr. Thomas A. Harris provided a method for understanding human behavior which has been applied with success in counseling and therapy. The method Dr. Harris discusses employs the concept of "Transactional Analysis" that was originally developed by Dr. Eric Berne. Dr. Harris believes that using "Transactional Analysis" in therapy is a realistic way to help clients understand their responsibility for solving problems and taking control of their lives. You may find that the vocabulary of Transactional Analysis is easy to understand and that it goes well with common sense. Dr. Harris points out that anybody can use Transactional Analysis, not just professional therapists or patients. The Well-Being Course and part of the Counseling Course were written by Rev. Incorporating wellness, beliefs, and values into ministerial counseling to attain a feeling of harmony is immeasurable. Especially for those clients who do wish to help themselves in wanting to treat their soul from any conflict they wish to talk about. This course has truly fine-tuned the subject for me. I’m looking forward to the next course.

The course is well written and outlined. I enjoyed doing it at my pace. Especially when my parents aging and dying process happened after signing up. I love reading the assignments and having quiz time after. It really helped to absorb the valuable tools and learning opportunity. I am blessed that I had this opportunity and endured through this study that I chose to be for the greater good of us all.

This is by far one of the life changing courses that I have ever taken. It helped me not only understand why people do the things they do, but more importantly helped examine my own life in the process. The techniques were challenging, but enlightening as well.

While this course may be entilted "Basic" it's any thing but. If this course doesn't challenge other people the way it has challenged me I'd be very suprised. This course is well worth every penny of support that we can give AFC, I'm shocked it doesn't cost much more to take than what it does. This course is well worth anyone's time and effort and will change the views of many about leadership roles in Ministry.

An excellent program to prepare ministers to counsel those who come forward with a problem. The course is very indepth but it is done in a clear manner making the content attainable for all students of pastoral counselling. Along the way in this course one learns much more than just counselling, rather it is an education of one's attitude and the ability to help others. I would highly encourage all ministers to pursue this fine educational program to empower new insights for personal growth to aid in their ministries. God Bless. Reverend Douglas.
